Yogyakarta palace, or locally known as Keraton Jogja, was built in 1755 by King Sultan HB I. The palace is not only the home to the king and family, but also the place to experience the Javanese culture heritage.
It is the center of Javanese culture living museum that situated in Yogyakarta. Some areas in the palace are open for public. Here you can learn and see directly how the Javanese culture is nurtured and preserved. You can see the activity of servants in the palace, the traditional art performances, as well as the collection that showcase the culture. These collections are kept in glass boxes and spread in various rooms, ranging from ceramics and glassware, weapons, photographs, miniature, and replicas. You can also see a different kind of batik cloth’s motifs and the diorama of its making process.
The art performance that you can see here is depending on their schedule. The show varies. There are puppet shows, shadow puppets show, and traditional dances.
In the palace compound, there is a museum inaugurated by one of the Kings, Sri Sultan HB X in 2005. It showcases the collection of batik cloth and the equipment to make batik from the era of King HB VIII to King HB X.
In one day, you can explore all the places such as The Water Castle, The Royal Horse Carriage Museum, The Grand Palace Mosque, and many more.
