Gurun Pasir Telaga Biru (a desert in the blue lake) is located in Jalan Raya Busung, Bitan island. It’s about 50 meters from the highway road. Tourist comes here to get a cool photo as the view is rarely seen in Indonesia.
It is quite surprising to find a ‘desert’ in the middle of tropical Indonesia. It was an abandoned mining site.
The name “Telaga Biru” (blue lake) is given as the water looks a bit blue-ish during hot sunny days. It was formed by the puddle of water left after excavated soil in the desert.
To go to the desert, you will go through an access road that can be muddy during the rainy season.
Before you reach the desert, there will a small lake on the right called Telaga Biru (blue lake). In this lake, you will find a bridge where we can take a picture of the desert in the background.
The desert itself is the remaining sand extraction. It was left untouched since the extraction was prohibited on the island. Now it has formed into a charming desert sandscape, picturesque hilly dunes that are perfect for insta-photo. Plus, you only need to pay for parking when visiting this place. Very much affordable.

Gurun Pasir Telaga Biru – A Magical Desert in Bintan Island Indonesia
Gurun Pasir Telaga Biru (The Blue Lake) was once an abandoned mining site. But as the puddle water form a blueish lake and the remaining sands form hilly dunes, it feels like in Sahara desert near an oasis. It is something that is rarely seen in Indonesia. That is why this place would be perfect for an insta-shot.
