Ulun Danu Beratan Temple is located in the shore of Lake Beratan, in the mountains near Bedugul. The weather is nice here, a cool mountain air.
This temple is also called “Bali temple on the lake” as it looks like floating when the Beratan river water rises. It was built in 1633 for offerings ceremony to the Balinese water, lake, and river goddess Dewi Danu.
Lake Beratan itself is known as the Lake of Holy Mountain due to the fertility of the central, located 1,200m above sea level. The lake is the main source of irrigation in central Bali.
There are five various temples in the complex dedicated to other Hindu gods. It’s quite a huge compound with big gardens and colorful flowers.
The most famous one is as shown in the picture, the Lingga Petak Temple. This temple is believed to be the main source of water and fertility of Lake Beratan and has a sacred well that stores holy water.
It has two shrines, one with 11-storey roofs to be dedicated to Shiva and his consort. While the 3-storey roof has four doors facing the four cardinal directions.
To be able to take a floating temple shot, it would be best for you to visit during rainy season. Although on dry season, you will get a shot of beautiful mountain view in the background.
You can also rent a boat to take you out on Lake Beratan so you can get a shot from different angle. However, the boat pier is outside the temple complex.
