Tanah Lot means the land in the sea in Balinese language. There is a temple on a rock just offshore which known as Tanah Lot Temple. It is one of the seven sea temples in Bali and has been a part of Balinese mythology for centuries.
The temple is claimed to be built in the 16th-century to worship the Balinese sea gods. It is believed that holy snakes are guarding the temple from evil spirits and intruders. When it is low tide, they say you can see the venomous sea snakes under high cliff of the temple.
The best time for you to visit this temple is during sunset. You will see sunset silhouette in behind the temple. Perfect for awesome \sunset photo.
If you visit the place during day time, you will be able to shop souvenir and handicraft in the shops along the road to the temple. The price is quite affordable compared to other tourist sites.
Another attraction not to be missed here is to take a picture with a snake (python). As mentioned above, the snake is the temple guardian. To take a picture using your phone, they will charge you Rp50,000. They also have professional photographers who can take nice shot for you for Rp100,000.
