Indonesia, Lombok – This beautiful island holds many untouched natural destinations is located right on the east part of Bali Island. Well-known for its Gili Islands, Lombok does have beautiful beach which has white and soft sand. One of the attractive beaches is Mandalika beach. Lombok’s mainstay beach which has now entered the tourism area and managed by ITDC. Not only keeps its natural beauty untouched, there are many beautiful tourist villages that are no less interesting to visit. Tourist villages that are currently on the rise are Sasak Village Sade and Desa Setanggor.
Sasak Sade Village is famous for its nickname as the village of thieves. This is because the process of marriage sounds more like elopement which only takes place in the village where the male stealing a female before the marriage become tradition in this village. The village which is located in Rembitan Village, Pujut, Central Lombok makes this village as one of the favorite villages to visit because it has unique customary habits. We can learn the history and traditional buildings typical of this village. Woven fabrics made by local people are the target of tourists for souvenirs. They weave the cloth directly in front of the house where we can immediately watch and have the opportunity to try it out.
Another fun fact coming from this village, I challenge you to get into the traditional house in the village of Sasak Sade. They mop and clean their floors using buffalo dung! but take it easy, this buffalo dung is odorless. The local believes by mopping the buffalo dung will make their house sturdy and less dusty, also more comfortable.
Not only Sasak Sade Village, there is also Setanggor Tourist Village, a tourist village that offers traditional Lombok experience. Here we can feel life being a local citizen of Lombok in a day. The activities offered are varied and many. There are several packages offered, whether it’s just one day trip or overnight stay package and sleep together at local’s traditional house.
I had the opportunity to try a package to stay 1 night in this village. Upon arrival at Setanggor Village, we are immediately greeted with a typical reception of this village with dances and playing of musical instruments such as traditional drums and trumpets, such a memorable reception.
It didn’t stop there, if I was greeted by adults, now it’s the turn of the young people to welcome us. It is very adorable watching those kids playing musical instruments accompanying the girls dancing the traditional of Lombok dance. They are very talented and skillful.
After watching the welcome ceremony, we immediately boarded the Cidomo (traditional horse transportation) to tour the village. First stop is visiting a cornfield, we will be taught how to pick the ripe corn which would later be processed into roasted corn. Then proceed to visit the village livestock stalls such as cows and goats. We can also feed them.
Desa Setanggor offers the experience of living in a village that is still very traditional and its simplicity, therefore don’t expect 5-star facilities, because we really live like local people. Setanggor well known for its Agro, Education, Culinary and Social Tourism. Having lunch in the middle of rice fields by using rantang (traditional food stack container), surrounded by rice fields, pick corn and tropical fruits directly from the garden and participating in traditional activities typical of the Setanggor Village. The experience of traveling through the tourist village is indeed more memorable in heart.
