When you think of Italy, the first things that come to mind are probably pizza, food, Michelangelo, Leonardo Da Vinci or the winning of UEFA Euro 2020, but there are so many other things to do in one of the beautiful countries in the world, ITALY, and one of these things is definitely visiting Milan.
Milan is the italian fashion capital, in fact every year there’s the Milan Fashion Week, a Clothing trade show that hosts the main fashion houses, like Fendi, Gucci, Prada, Versace and others.
But Milan is much more than that, and now I’m going to tell you the best places to visit in Milan!
I live in little city of Lombardy, and when I want to visit Milan, I just need to take a train from Varese to Milano Piazza Garibaldi.
But Milan could be a strategic point to start a Road trip across Italy, because it’s near Malpensa, the biggest airport in Italy.
Once arrived in Milan, the first thing to do is visiting the Duomo, symbol of the city.
(the facade of the Cathedral and Piazza del Duomo)
Duomo is the second biggest Cathedral in Italy, after the Cathedral of San Pietro, in Rome, and it is more than 100 meters high.
At the highest point of the Duomo there is the “madunina”, a little Madonna’s statue
You can find it in “Piazza del Duomo” a beautiful square in Center (but full of pigeons)
It’s also possible to enter the Duomo, at the price of 9€.
! attention, I advise you to pre-order the tickets, to skip the immense lines.
In front of Duomo there’s the famous Vittorio Emanuele II Gallery, that connects Piazza del Duomo to Piazza della Scala (Scala is the most important theater in Milan)
Vittorio Emanuele II gallery is one of the most suggestive places in Milan, you’ll be enchanted because of its beauty and its vastness.
The Gallery is full of luxury boutiques, like Fendi, Gucci, Louis Vuitton and others, but there are also gourmet restaurants, like “Ristorante Cracco”, by the chef Carlo Cracco.
It’s a typical Milanese tradition to crush the “balle del toro” (bull balls), under the dome of the Gallery, as it would bring good luck.
once you’ve visited the gallery, I recommend doing three things: The first is to take a walk in the area surrounding the cathedral, it’s in fact full of shops ,where you can do shopping, and bars/restaurants to have a good aperitif, with spritz and campari.
I remind you to choose a bar well to not to spend too much money, because sometimes drinks are quite expensive 🙁 .
Also be careful, the streets of Milan are always messed up and full of people, so I advise you to BE CAREFUL because in the midst of so much confusion you could lose something.
The second thing I recommend you to do is go to Parco Sempione, the green heart of Milan.
It’s a huge park where you can relax in the shade of the trees or take a walk in the middle of the green, away from the rush of cars.
in a certain sense, Parco Sempione is like the milanese version of Central Park, and is only 10 minutes away on foot from the Duomo! That’s perfect… right?
and In front of the park there is Castello Forzesco, a huge building that is more than 600 years old! Older than my grandma ahah
The third thing to do is to follow Corso Giuseppe Garibaldi, full of interesting little clubs, flea markets and street art, recently Supreme has opened a store right here, so if you are a streetwear fan, YOU HAVE TO VISIT IT.
There are also dozen and dozen of clubs, where you can drink exquisite cocktails.
Here some photos of the view from Corso Giuseppe Garibaldi
What about the food?
aaaaaa the Italian food is THE. BEST. IN. THE. WORLD
But …..what to eat in Milan?
Maybe a pizza, that is probably the first thing that tourists eat as soon as they arrive in Italy.
If you want to try (and i know that you want) the MOST EXQUISITE PIZZA IN MILAN, go to “Pizzium”. a restaurant in “Via Vigevano” or “Da Zero di via luini”, in “Via Luini”.
look at these beautiful pizzaz 🙂
They’re both near Duomo, and AAAAA I would eat all the pizzas in their restaurant, from first to last.
Other typical Milan foods are “risotto alla milanese” (rice and saffron) and “cotoletta alla milanese”
If you want to drink something in a bar you should buy a spritz, also because literally EVERY BARS do spritz ahahah, so… why not?
To be honest, while I’m writing this part of the article, my mouth is watering ahaha 😉
So…we are at the end of this little guide, in conclusion Milan is a city where to spend some good days, you will not be disappointed, trust me ☺
