Indonesia Bali – Nusa Lembongan is one of the places on Bali island that I had been wanting to visit for years. It is an 8 square kilometre island, located in the southeast of Bali. It has crystal clear water and somehow a laid-back neighborhood. A perfect place to get away from touristic places in the Island of Gods.
To reach the island, you will need to take a fast boat. It costs about US$20 for a return ticket. The boat ride takes an hour. In the past two years, I feel lucky that I did a few trips to this island before the coronavirus outbreak.
The one trip I enjoyed is when visiting this beautiful island with my family and took a one-day tour around the island. The tour costs Rp500,000 using the island buggy. This fare is the rental cost for the buggy.
We made few stops in the tourist sites across the island.
Mangrove Forest
You have to rent a small boat to see the forest. It was all green everywhere. The best time to visit is in the morning when the water is tide and less tourists or boats. There are about 11 species of mangrove growing in the area.
Gala-gala Underground House
Wow! I cannot believe there is a house underground like this on the island. It has seven exits and three of them are used for ventilation. Inside of it is pretty cool too.
It is like a labyrinth of tunnels or about a 500-square-metre hole in the ground.
I have to say, I didn’t go there as I am afraid in a close-compartment-like space. So, I just talked with the caretaker above. The house is built by Made Biasa in 1961, a local farmer, dalang (shadow puppet master), and priest.
He was inspired to build the cave or Gala-gala from the Pandawas story who built one to protect his family from his enemy.
Yellow Bridge
An eye-catching bridge. I love yellow! So, this one attracts me the most.
The bridge connects the island with a smaller island nearby, Nusa Ceningan. You can cross it on foot or motorbike.
The view is awesome from here plus the bridge color would make it a nice instagrammable photo.
Mushroom Bay
Lembongan has crystal clear water and you can see it in this bay too. The beach is white sand and not many rocks so you can play in the water freely. If you snorkel near the rocks, you will see colourful fishes. Just mind the local boat which comes and goes.
The beach is nice for a sunset view. Hotels, bungalows, and cafes are lining on the beach. I have a favorite place here to have the supper yummy banana pancake with vanilla ice cream.
Devils Tear
This tourist site name can be daunting or triggering your curiosity. Daunting as the place is reported to cause injury to several tourists who pose in the danger zone and got hit with the wave. Curiosity because of the name.
The place looks ordinary from afar but once you go near the cliff, you will be amazed by the scenic view, especially when the wave splashes between the rock. The view from above looks amazing.
However, it is dangerous now to get near the cliff. I myself tried to stand far away from it, while my family fiercely walked near it.
Dream Beach
Near the Devils Tear, there is Dream beach. It’s another bay that is nice to chill in or sun-bath if you want to walk all the way down the hill. If you read my trip story to Nusa Penida island, you will know that I am not a fan of exploring a beach under a high cliff.
We started the tour at 9 am and finished it around 4pm. That was a long day to explore the island.
I did enjoy it though!
