Pakistan – Nanga Parbat is the ninth highest mountain in the world at 8,126 meters (26,660ft) above sea level. It is located in the Diamer District of Gilgit Baltistan region, Pakistan. Nanga Parbat is the western anchor of the Himalayas. The name Nanaga Parbat is derived from the Sanskrit word nanga and parvata which together means “Naked Mountain”.
I started my journey from the Capital of Pakistan known as Islamabad at 5:30am. The Nanga Parbat base camp is around 10 hours drive from Islamabad and then a 2 hours jeep trek and then a 3 hours hike to fairy meadows. After reaching fairy meadows there will be an additional 3.5 hours hike to the Nanga Parbat base camp. So that’s a lot of travelling and hiking therefore I thought taking breaks in the middle of the journey and staying at different places for rest would be a good idea that way I’d explore more.
Our First stop was the Naran valley. We reached Naran Valley after 5 hours of drive and it’s famous for it’s lake known as “Saiful Muluk”. It’s located at a elevation of 3,224m (10,578 feet) above see level and is above the tree line making it one of the highest lakes of Pakistan.
We decided to spend a night at the Kaghan valley which was few kilometers away from Naran valley and is known for it’s beautiful mountains. We then the next morning resumed our journey and started to head towards the Lulusar Lake. It flows southwest through the entire length of Kaghan valley and is located 287km away from naran.
After this we were heading towards the Babusar Pass. This pass connects Kaghan valley with Chillas. Babusar pass is known for it’s mountain slopes and winding roads. This pass was originally used the Mughal emperor Babur who would use this pass to pass this area.
We then passed the Babusar Pass and the entered Chillas. In Chillas we had park our cars in the parking area and gear up for the Jeep trek. In Chillas we park our cars and rent a jeep with driver who then takes us to the hiking track that leads to Fairy Meadows. We fix a time with him after how many days and at what time he’s going to pick us up from the same spot where he left us for the hiking trek. Communications is essential because phone signals don’t work once we enter Chillas. After the jeep track we started our hike and made it to fairy meadows after 3 hours of hike.
And after reaching fairy meadows you won’t believe the view. All the struggle to reach to the top. All the tiredness all went away when the sun shined on to the mountains of Nanga Parbat. View From Fairy Meadows :
We decided to stay the night in of the cottages as seen in the picture and decided to hike the next day towards the Nanga Parbat base camp.
After 3.5 hours of hike from the Fairy Meadows we finally made it to the Nanga Parbat base camp and believe me it was worth it and I would recommend tourists around the world to visit someday. The people are fantastic over and it was an overall great experience.
